The good the bad and the ugly - social networking

Do different social networking sites offer other benefits and drawbacks?

I think that social networking is a great way to connect with people, and stay involved in your community. However, each platform has something a little different to offer.

So what are some benefits?

Right off the bat LinkedIn comes to mind, because it has the most to offer from an occupational point of view. LinkedIn is a great way to follow the careers of your peers, stay informed about job updates, and learn more.

What are some negatives?

While LinkedIn is a valuable resource, it doesn't offer the same benefits as other social networking sites. For example, twitter is a used as a great news platform and is a way to express opinions. I think overall, these platforms, including instagram have different things to offer, so it really depends on what you are looking for.

Is there an ideal number of “friends” or connections individuals have on Facebook that can improve their mental health?

Having a good number of friends or social connections on Facebook makes the platform more engaging which may improve mental health, because you may feel more included. However, sometimes having too many connections can be overwhelming.

With any social media platform it is important to be aware of the mental health side effects.
